Two drives we continue to host annually (and plan to continue host for years to come) are in support of two organizations near-and-dear to our hearts. Throughout April and May, we collected professional clothing for A Wider Circle’s Professional Development Program; and for Turning the Page, we collected books, CDs and DVDs. Both of these organizations are located in and service the DMV area, and both enact real change to make our communities a better place to live.
A Wider Circle has been working tirelessly since 2001 to end poverty. By focusing on providing basic necessities, education, and long-term support, AWC creates lasting change in the lives they touch. Through their Workforce Readiness program, the organization focuses on providing the support and education necessary for those in need to land a job. The clothing and accessories collected from our drive were taken to A Wider Circle’s showroom, which serves more than 1,000 individuals each year. Anyone in need of professional attire is welcomed and encouraged to take as much clothing as they need to interview and work. For more information on A Wider Circle, or to host your very own professional clothing drive, contact Kim Canary at kim@awidercircle.org.
Turning the Page is a local nonprofit committed to engaging families in their children’s success. The organization connects parents to home learning resources and activities to support family engagement. Our donated books, CDs, and DVDs are resold by Turning the Page to raise funds for their programs in D.C. public schools. If you have yet to do so, check out Turning the Page’s used bookstore, Carpe Librum in downtown D.C.
While we love supporting both of these great organizations and plan to do so for years to come, we always love hearing about other organizations that may need our support. Know of any? Let us know here.
