Craig is among the 1% of mortgage bankers nationwide to earn both the Certified Residential Mortgage Specialist designation as well the Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS) designation. His CMPS status speaks to his mortgage planning expertise in working with financial advisers to tailor a mortgage that complements long-term financial goals. This is a unique skill among mortgage bankers that requires extensive training in the areas of taxation, estate, and financial planning. Craig is sought out for his mortgage planning expertise, and he regularly teaches classes and offers Continuing Education (CE) credits to financial advisers in the area.
Craig has particular expertise in working with clients going through separation and divorce, and he has bolstered those abilities by obtaining comprehensive training and certifications in the area. Most recently, Craig became a Certified Divorce Lending Professional (CDLP), solidifying his expertise in the connection between divorce, family law, IRS tax rules, and mortgage financing strategies as they relate to real estate. Craig has also undergone both Mediation and Collaborative training.
Craig has garnered both national and local media attention for his mortgage and housing market expertise. He has provided commentary on NBC Nightly News, CNBC, News Channel 8, and Fox Morning News. Craig is regularly interviewed as a subject matter expert, and his writing has appeared in several notable publications. His Op-ed, “Now is the time to buy a house,” was a featured article in the Washington Business Journal.
Craig has been awarded Most Engaged Small Business Person and Ambassador of the Year by the Greater Washington Board of Trade (GWBOT), where he has been an active member for several years. His commitment to the local business community has led him to undertake several leadership roles at the GWBOT, including service on the Board of Directors, a Co-Chair position on the Membership Committee, and a coordinating role in the Ambassador Network. As a result of his many leadership roles and community involvement, Craig was also selected for the elite 40 Under 40 award, Washington Business Journal’s annual recognition of the DC area’s brightest emerging business leaders.
As a member of The Economic Club of Washington, D.C., Craig joins the likes of other CEOs, Presidents, and major national corporation heads in the attendance of exclusive events that signal the future of the U.S. economy and the local business landscape. He takes this opportunity to learn about unique industry trends and network with other local leaders. He then applies his knowledge of current events to inform his service in Leadership Greater Washington (LGW), where he has been collaborating with other business, government, and nonprofit leaders to make a positive impact on the community for years. Craig is a graduate of LGW’s class of 2009, and he previously sat on the Board of Directors and Finance Committee. Craig was previously the Chair of the Nominating Committee, Membership Committee, & Selection Committee at LGW as well.
Craig earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the American University’s Kogod School of Business Administration and resides in Bethesda, MD with his wife, Amy, and sons, Sammy & Ollie, and his dogs, Pavarotti and Butters. In his free time, Craig is an avid roller hockey player, hiker, traveler, and history buff.
