How Do I Choose A Mortgage Lender?

Buying a home may be the largest investment you ever make. So how do you choose the right mortgage lender?

Most people begin the home buying process by browsing the internet.  Perhaps that's how you came to be reading this piece.  If so, I'm glad you did.  After all, there are a lot of “Mortgage Myths” out there and it's important to verify the accuracy and reliability of the information you find when searching for a professional mortgage banker.

Tips to help you choose a mortgage lender

Let's face it, it's so simple and quick to surf the web for answers that it's easy to overlook other very valuable sources of information that can make the difference between you making a mistake, or making a quality decision.  You deserve to get the right type of financing that you can manage without difficulty or burden.  So, when you're ready to select a mortgage lender here are a few tips I suggest:

  • Talk to your parents, siblings, or peers that have already bought a home and have used a local mortgage lender. Would they use them again?  Who do they recommend?  Is there anything that they suggest you avoid?  What did they appreciate most about the home loan lender they used?
  • Seek out local professionals that have excellent reviews in places like Social Survey, LinkedIn, Facebook, Google, and other verified platforms.
  • Pick a lender who has client testimonials that express the lender’s communication, transparency, and competitive skills.
  • Schedule a phone conversation with your potential lender so you'll have the opportunity to gauge whether you feel comfortable.  You are the customer so ask as many questions as you like.  Good lenders will expect questions and do their best to give you clear answers.
  • If you already have a realtor, ask them for a recommendation. They will very likely have a few lenders they use regularly and may be able to recommend one for you.

Of course, please feel free to reach out to me directly and interview me as your local, experienced Apex Home Loans mortgage lender!  If you are new to home buying, I am available to coach you through the entire process. Together, we can determine the best possible strategy for you.
