Home Sweet HoCo: 6 Holiday Activities for You and the Family!

Holiday Activities for You and the Family
Welcome to our fall blog series! In #HomeSweetHoCo, we bring you weekly updates on everything Howard County has to offer in one place, distraction-free, cost-free, and born out of a love for the place we call home.

The holiday season is upon us, and we’re giving the blog a festive makeover for the next few weeks. For our first (mint)stallment, we have you covered all month long with Howard County’s top local family-friendly activities. Whether you want to be outdoors and brave the winter wind, or prefer getting warm and cozy inside, we’ve got it all  – don’t miss(letoe) out!

1. Symphony of Lights

Grab some hot cocoa and get ready to light the night up! The Symphony of Lights is a classic Howard County winter activity. The annual light show is back this season every night from November 20th - January 1st with nearly 100 dazzling displays. Drive through this magical winter wonderland, or, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, join in on a group walk-through. All of the traditional events are back, too, including Dazzle Dash, Midnight at 7, Bike the Lights, and Twinkling Tots. There’s even an outdoor ice skating rink this year for some extra winter fun.

BONUS: If you’re a fellow dog lover, bring your pup along for “Tail Lights” December 13th. Treat your dog (and yourself!) to a pet-friendly walkthrough the Symphony of Lights. Be sure to dress them up in their best holiday attire for the “Best Dressed Pet” contest. It’s a night of pure fun so bring them along and go dachshund through the snow!

2. A Christmas Carol: The Musical

The musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ classic story is hitting Toby’s Dinner Theatre November 17th – January 8th! A Christmas Carol: The Musical is filled with joy, laughter, and love to get you and the family in the holiday spirit. Enjoy the brilliant choreography, alluring melodies, and charming cast over their evening buffet. Ticket prices range from $59-$62.

3. LEGO Holiday Display

This one is sure to attract every little boy under 12. Classic Plastic Bricks Toy Store in Ellicott City is putting on a holiday inspired LEGO display free of charge. Come on in any day November 28th – December 24th to see thousands of LEGO parts come together in a lavish LEGO Christmas landscape.

4. Holiday Festival of Trains

Here’s another one sure to delight the little boys of Howard County. The Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum is putting on their Festival of Trains every weekend from 10:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Come to the historic Ellicott City station to enjoy their four operating model trains. There’s even special holiday reduced admission prices, so don’t pass this one up!

5. Santa

Breakfast with THE Santa Clause?? Holy Guacamole! Your kids sure aren’t going to want to miss this one. For $15, join Santa and his little helpers at the Nordstrom Café in Columbia Mall. Tell Santa you’ve been good this year and hand over your wish list while enjoying scrambled eggs, bacon, French toast sticks, juice and more! There will also be a raffle for a jewelry gift set from Pandora. Registration is open now and seating is limited. All proceeds will benefit the Grassroots Crisis Intervention Center.

6. The Nutcracker on Ice

The Columbia Figure Skating Club is over-joyed to bring to you their annual Nutcracker on Ice performance December 10th and 11th. Watch this classical holiday tale unfold with sensational moves from the Club’s talented cast. Tickets are only $15 each.

Put a Bow on the Perfect Home this Season.

Hope we were able to get your holiday juices flowing and that you’re able to attend one of these amazing events. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season from our family at Apex Home Loans to yours!
