Steve Calem has been in the field of real estate finance since 1985. He got his start with The Bank of Beverly Hills, Beverly Hills, California, and was a member of the National Presidents Club with PaineWebber Mortgage for four consecutive years, achieving 97% client satisfaction ratings, 100% approval scores, and top 10% volume goals. Since relocating to Washington, DC, Steve has worked as Vice President of Real Estate Lending for two community banks, has served as an Advisory Board Member of another Bethesda Community Bank, while maintaining top loan origination volumes amongst industry colleagues. Steve has been President of Capital Funding Group, LLC since 1994. Through this entity, Steve manages a mortgage pipeline in excess of $535M to ensure they consistently have the lowest possible rate, and to re-engineer individual mortgage programs to minimize effective interest expense and maximize tax benefits. He has also served as production manager, and branch manager, at the Mortgage Division levels of community banks and mortgage companies.

Steve has appeared several times on national television as a “talking head”, (Fox News, Fox Business), and has been interviewed several times on the subject of real estate financing by The Washington Post, and by Fortune Magazine. He achieved his Certified Mortgage Planner Designation in 2006 and has been certified to teach real estate finance techniques for continuing education credit to financial planners and real estate professionals. He has successfully and creatively worked with experienced homebuyers, builders, commercial investors, and financial professionals (CPA's, tax, estate, and divorce attorneys).

Steve earned his MBA from George Washington University, Washington, DC, in May, 1999, and his Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Temple University, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He has also completed post graduate course work in real estate finance at the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA). Steve currently lives in Bethesda, Maryland, with his wife Sandra, son Nathan, daughter Arielle, and golden retriever Kota.
